Sunil Narine being reported for chucking again is surprising: KKR | Cricket News

MUMBAI: The Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday said that they and their off-spinner Sunil Narine are both “surprised” at the West Indian bowler being reported again for chucking.
However, KKR have also said that they “are respectful of the process that the IPL has put in place to have his action reviewed, and are working closely with the IPL in this matter.”
On Saturday, Narine was once again reported for chucking during his team’s IPL match against Kings XI Punjab. One more breach could lead to him being barred from bowling again. The report was made by the on-field umpires (Ulhas Gandhe and Chris Gaffaney) according to the IPL’s Suspected Illegal Bowling Action Policy.
In a statement on the Narine issue on their website, KKR said: “Narine was reported for suspect action by the match officials after KKR’s match vs KXIP held on Oct 10, 2020 in Abu Dhabi. This came as a surprise to the franchise and Narine, considering he has played over 115 games in the IPL since 2012 and as many as 68 games since 2015, when he was last reported during the IPL season for a suspect action before being subsequently cleared completely by SRASSC, an ICC-accredited facility.”

“Furthermore, he was playing his sixth game this season, with no concerns expressed formally or informally by the match officials so far. Having said this, we are respectful of the process that the IPL has put in place to have his action reviewed, and are working closely with the IPL in this matter. We are hopeful that there would be an appropriate resolution quickly. We appreciate the cooperation being extended by the IPL in expediting this matter,” said KKR in the statement.
Narine has been reported for chucking several times during his nine-year-old international career and was barred from bowling in 2015 by the International Cricket Council (ICC). He then came back with a remodelled action. However, his bowling action was once again reported as “illegal” in the 2018 Pakistan Super League (PSL). After this setback, he worked on his batting skills and became a useful pinch-hitter for the Knight Riders, even opening the batting.
In the last two games in the IPL, Narine has been tough to pick as Kings XI’s Prabhsimran Singh and Nicholas Pooran found out at the death as he finished with two for 28 to win a stunning win for KKR.
